It all started
in the fall of 2001 when WR Mark Daniels attended some off-season
workouts for the Snohomish County Vikings. Daniels liked what he
saw so he mentioned to Viking owner Wes Fischer that he knew someone
who might be interested in helping out the team. Daniels put Fischer
in touch with Baltimore Ravens DT Sam Adams. Adams and Fischer spent
countless hours on the phone planning the the Vikings 2002 season.
After the 2001
NFL season Adams returned to Seattle and attended Viking workouts.
Needless to say, there was quite a buzz around the team.
Early in the
Spring of 2002 the Eastside Chiefs dropped out of the NWFL. In addition
to owning and acting as head coach of the WFL's Seattle Warhawks,
Chief owner/Head Coach Michael Stuart had just become the head coach
at Sammamish High School and no longer had time to devote to minor
league football.
The loss of
the Chiefs opened the door for Adams to start his own team in his
home town of Kirkland, Washington. After discussing the situation
with Fischer, the Eastside Hawks were born.
Originally the Hawks planned to adopt the uniform of the Seattle
Seahawks but their agreement with the NFL franchise fell through.
