2001 NFA PLAYOFFS
OCTOBER 14, 2001

RB Palmer Butler started the game strong averaging 7 yards a carry on the Bucs opening drive.  The drive stalled when Lajuane Brown blindsided QB Derek Johnson causing a fumble.  The Raiders had a clean shot at recovering the ball but missed it.   OT Chuck Keating recovered for a 10 yard loss and 2 plays later the Bucs turned the ball over on downs at the Raider 37.

This 11 yard run by Ty Williams was the longest of the game for the Raiders.

Buc CB Antonio Chandler nearly knocked this ball away but it went off his finger tips to Henry Newson who backed into the endzone.  The played completed a 6 play - 62 yard opening drive for the Raiders.  The Bucs once again turned the ball over on downs - this time at the Raider 47 with Quise-man and Mike VanCleve stuffing Palmer Butler on 4th down.    The Buc defense stepped up and got the ball right back.  On 4th and 2 from the Buc 46 DT Bruce Borgeit pressured QB Kevin Bilker into throwing and incomplete pass that was nearly intercepted by MLB Shay Dean.

Buc DE JJ Rivers was expectedly dominant.  On 1st down from the Raider 45 he got to QB Kevin Bickler BEFORE the RB could get the handoff.  The play resulted in a 6 yard loss.

Josh Branch goes in untouched on a short slant pass from Derek Johnson.  (8 plays - 54 yards)  The PAT was wide left so the Bucs trailed 6-7.

Alphonso Harris broke several tackles and threatened to return this kickoff for a score before being caught by Jeff Danner.

Bickler bounced back to hit Henry Newson with a strike across the middle.  Newson outran Antonio Chandler the final 40 yards for his 2nd long touchdown of the 1st quarter.  (2 plays - 55 yards)

Five plays later Derek Johnson hit Antonio Chandler with this 25 yard fade pass.  (5 plays, 45 yards)  The Bucs went for two to tie the score but CB Wayne Harris stepped in front of TE Shay Dean and  knocked the pass away.

Chandler struck again five plays later.  This time intercepting an overthrown pass at the Buc 38.  The Bucs drove down to the Raider 20 before giving the ball back.  Pressure forced Johnson to throw high to Calvin Griggs on a slant.  The ball ricocheted off of Griggs hands right to safety #6 at the Raiders 7 yard line

The Raiders could not capitalize and had to punt from their 4.  Taking over at the Raider 39, the Bucs had a great opportunity to regain the lead before halftime.  On 3rd and 9 the shotgun snap went way over Johnson's head.   The ball took a sideways bounce right to Raider DE Marquise Cross who returned it for a touchdown giving the Raiders a 20-12 lead.  (Buc DE James Crittenden blocked the PAT).
