| LIABILITY
WAIVERS VS CONTRACTS WAIVERS Every team should have every player sign a waiver EVERY season. By signing a waiver you are stating that you understand and accept the fact that life is risky and stuff happens, and it's not necessarily someone else's fault. Technically, you should sign a waiver even to attend a team meeting or WATCH practice. A waiver simply states that you won't sue the team if you get hit in the head with a football or get food poisioning from the meal the restaurant served you at the team meeting, etc, etc, etc. CONTRACTS By signing a contract you are agreeing to play ONLY for that team for the upcoming season. Contracts ARE binding so make sure you explore all your options before signing on with the first team you hear about. Once you sign a contract you can only play for that team or sit out the year - unless released by the owner of the team. The only way the Commissioner will let you out of a contract is if your job forces you to move a considerable distance. If you falsely claim to have moved just to be allowed to change teams the Commissioner may take actions such as suspending you for a season and/or having your new team forfeit all games you played in. After the 5th week of the season you cannot change teams for any reason whatsoever. (It's NOT the "5th game" rule because some seasons the schedule has byes and teams don't all reach 5 games at the same time. It's the "5th week" rule.) If you played for a team this season then you can sign a contract WITH THAT TEAM for next season as soon as the season ends. Remember, you are LEGALLY COMMITTING to that team for the entire year. Players new to the league, or players who change teams, cannot sign contracts with the new team until March 1. CAN A PLAYER PRACTICE WITH A TEAM WITHOUT SIGNING A CONTRACT? It's up to the team. In the past teams have been burned by players showing up for a couple of weeks and learning the plays, then going to another team. Player's shouldn't have to commit to a contract to tryout, but again, it's up to the team. If you don't feel comfortable committing to the team for the entire year then don't sign. Players SHOULD sign a waiver to practice/tryout (or attend any team function). |

| ROSTER
LIMITS NWFL teams can only have 55 players in uniform for league and league playoff games. NWFL Bylaws SECTION 14: Players' Rosters A) A complete roster must be submitted to the League office at least two (2) weeks prior to the beginning of regular season play. B) Each roster shall maintain a minimum of twenty-two active (22) players. An active roster must be prepared for each game listing the players that are eligible to dress for that game. This typed roster must be made available to the head official and opposing team by Thursday at 11:00 PM prior to the start of the game, if requested. July
8, 2001: G) Updated rosters with additions or deletions must be made at least two (2) days prior to the next game. Completed contract cards are required to be signed for additions and deletions to be official. Such information must be received in writing as soon as possible by the League's office. H) No player may move to another team after the midpoint of the season. The midpoint of a 10 game season is defined as game 5. (i.e. - if a player participates in game 5 then he is committed to that team for the duration of the season.) May 20, 2001: There is a $100 transfer fee for players changing teams after the day before the first game of the season. September
16, 2001: The "5th game" rule was unanimously changed to the
"5th week" rule. K) Players must play in three (3) regular season league games and *remain on the teams roster for the duration of the season to be eligible for any and all playoff games (see paragraph F above). The 3 game rule does not apply to players new to the league. *2000:
A Thunderbolt played in the first 5 games and then was injured and missed
the rest of the season. He was not eligible for the playoffs because the
Thunderbolts took him off the roster while injured. L) A suspended player is ineligible to join the roster of any team in the League until the suspension is completed. PENALTY: Personnel who violate Articles A through M will be suspended from playing in the League for the remainder of the season as well as the following season. |

STATS
Anyone can submit stats for their team, or you can send film and I'll do the stats for you team. You'll hear rumors from petty owners about film getting passed around but they will be unable to cite a single example. It has never happened and if you ask any honorable owner they'll confirm this. The fact is, only one team has ever asked me for film. A team new to the league wanted film from the previous season. After consulting with the commissioner it was decided that the new team should ask for film directly from the other team, not from a 3rd party. I've never sent film to teams or individuals outside the league. No person or team outside the league has ever even asked me for film. After the season film is shared but only among the participants. For example, the Vikings send film so I can do stats for their opponents (they send in their own stats). Often coaches/players from the other team on the film want a copy and I see no problem in sending it too them. If stats and post-season honors are important to you then choose a team that turns in stats. You'll be able to tell which teams turn in stats just by looking at the stats from the most recent season. |
