The Cavaliers dominated the first half, outgaining the Hawks 176 - 36 and having an 8-2 advantage in first downs. The Hawks got on the score board on the last play of the half when John Adair's 32 yard field goal came up short and as the Cavs left the field an alert Hawk picked up the ball in the back of the endzone and returned it 109 yards for a controversial score.

The Hawks tied the game on the 2nd play of the 4th quarter with TE Derrick Pleasants 20 yard catch from Tom Linarelli. Two plays later a Hawk DE batted a Jimmy Williams pass up in the air and a DT Don Murphy caught it and rambled 10 yards for the go ahead score.
