those of you who remembered reading all that mess head coaches Sam Adams
and Jeff Scott talked about a month ago on who was going to beat who..
the results are in...
Did the Hawks run through the Jags like a piece of "wet toilet paper" (like Sam predicted)? .... NO. This was a fairly evenly matched contest, just as I thought it would be (seeing the Jags play the week prior against the Bengals). Jags had a nice opening kick off return out to their 40. The first play of the game Jags QB Leo Dickerson bootlegged out to hit teammate WR Hakeem McCallister on a 40+ yard fly route to go up early in the 1st qtr. That was really the only "highlight" of the 1st qtr. Both teams offenses had troubles (or lack of success is a better term) moving the ball against either teams defense. The Hawks came out running the ball, and did so several times with success. Sidney Orange had several big gains up the middle, and came up big a few times to get a much needed first downs. The Jags going for a blocked punt attempt, they ended up roughing the kicker (good acting on punter Jose Moreno's part), for an automatic first down. After several nice runs, the Hawks finally punched it in from around the 5 to tie the game at 7. Halfway through the third qtr, the Jags would break the tie on a "jump-ball". Jags QB, TJ lofted the ball up to Hakeem McCallister in the corner of the endzone for his 2nd score of the game, and a 14-7 lead over the Hawks. The Hawks would eventually tie the game in the fourth to make it a 14-14 affair. I didn't see how they scored, sorry. Finally time running out, we went in to overtime, with the Jags winning the toss. Starting at their own 20 yard line, Jags QB TJ throws a dagger into his own teams back, by under throwing his WR, which was intercepted by the Hawks CB (sorry, don't know his name.. but I got a picture), and returned to the five yard line of the Jags. After a couple of run attempts up the middle, the Hawks kicker came out to attempt what would be the game winning field goal, and nailed it. Overall this game was exactly what I thought it would turn out to be like. The winner would be victorious by 7 or less points, and it was... Both teams offenses looked a lot better this game than they did versus their opponents last week (Jets & Bengals). Great game on both teams parts... |
