 The
game was all Vikings early. Viking kicker Nick Obrastoff boomed a well
placed opening kickoff down the right sideline. Jaguar return man Carlos
Clark caught it near the sideline at the 10 yard line but couldn't stop
his momentum in time and stepped out of bounds. On the Jags 1st play
at their own 10 QB Leo Dickerson dropped back to pass and was pressured
by DT David Sather. He rolled to his right and started to run. He lost
control of the ball as he juked past Vince Barbee at the 5. Just as
he was about to regain control of the ball DT Larry Ammons caught up
to him and poked it loose from behind before dragging Dickerson to the
ground (left). The ball bounced to LB Owen Smith
at the 11. Smith scooped it up and went down the left sideline for 6
(right). The PAT hold was botched but the Vikings
still led 6-0 with just seconds into the game.

| Malachi
DeWalts gets around the corner for 16 yards early in the 1st quarter. |
Dickerson's
option pitch bounced to DeWalt and was recovered by Viking #20. |
|
| |
  |
 |
| On
3rd and 10, John McCourt hit Sean Frodeson with this 12 yard pass,
and then Ondre Brown swept left for another 4 yards. |
A 17 yard kickoff return by Clark
set up the Jaguars at their own 24. Dickerson hit TE Landon Bishop for
8 yards and then RB Malachi DeWalt rumbled up the middle and then cut
outside for 16 yards and a first down near midfield. Dickerson tried
to run the option but his pitch to DeWalt was short and Viking DB #20
recovered at the 36. The Viking offense couldn't move the ball except
for a 12 yard pass from QB John McCourt to WR Sean Frodeson on 3rd and
10 (above) and they settled for a Larry Moody
42 yard field goal and a 9-0 lead.

| Malachi
DeWalt and James Goody give the Jags a solid inside/outside running
game. |
 |
| Jag
LB #44 stops Viking RB Ondre Brown for a 5 yard loss |
A penalty on the next kickoff return
pushed the Jags back to their own 8. The running Malachi DeWalt and
James Goody enabled them to keep the ball for 14 plays, but they only
managed to move the ball to the Viking 44 before turning it over on
downs. The Jags didn't have a punter at the game and Head Coach Jeff
Scott didn't want to risk a blocked punt by putting an inexperienced
player back there so the Jags just went for it on 4th down throughout
the game. The Vikings took over at their own 44 and two runs by Ondre
Brown netted just 1 yard. On 3rd and 9 McCourt went over the top to
WR Davie Beeks for 32 yards and a first down on the last play of the
first quarter. On 2nd and 7 from the Jags 20, McCourt overthrew his
receiver and safety Jackie Triplett intercepted the ball at the 5 and
returned it out to the 36.
|

 |
 |
| On
3rd and 1, late in the 1st quarter, James Goody follows Malachi
DeWalt around the corner for a 5 yard before being stopped by CB
Chad Clark. The drive stalled from there and the Jags turned the
ball over on downs at the Viking 44. |

James

|
| |
  |
| This
14 yard pass from Leo Dickerson to TE Landon Bishop completed a
9 play, 74 yard drive and put the Jags on the board. |
A first down holding penalty on
a pass to Carlos Clark moved the ball back to the 26 but the Jags offense
took off from there. They alternated between DeWalt runs and Leo Dickerson
strikes to Akeem McAllister to move the ball down to the Viking 35.
A spirited 21 yard burst up the middle by James Goody set up the Jags
with a first down at the 14. From there Dickerson found a wide open
Landon Bishop down the middle for the score. Rick Black's PAT pulled
the Jags to within 2 at 9-7 early in the 2nd quarter.
|
| |
 |
 |
| This
8 yard run by Ondre Edwards was nullified by a penalty. |
Demetrius
Milloy stops FB Brian Johnson for a 2 yard gain. |
This time it was Vikings who botched
a kickoff return and had to start at their own 10. A fast roller took
and awkward bounce and went off the foot of the return man and out of
bounds. Ondre Brown swept for 8 yards on first down but a holding penalty
moved the ball back to the 5. Three more Ondre Brown runs and 2 passes
to Sean Frodeson moved the ball all the way down to the Jag 32. Two
Steve Casino runs set up 3rd and 6 and FB Greg Harmon bulldozed up the
middle for the first.

 |
 |
| McCourt
threw over Travis Bracken to TE James McCool on another long gain
that was called back. |
Jackie
Triplett's 2nd interception of the game. |
McCourt hit WR Andy Shreve on a
beautiful post-corner route for a 17 yard touchdown but the play was
nullified by a holding call. Had the play stood it would have capped
an impressive 12 play - 95 yard scoring drive for the Vikings, but instead
they faced 2nd and 20 from the Jaguar 27. McCourt hit TE James McCool
down the middle for 20 yards but he was ruled ineligible due to a misalignment
in the Viking formation. That pushed the ball back 15 yards to the Jaguar
42.
|
|
|
Two
plays later McCourt threw behind Andy Shreve down the middle where safety
Jackie Triplett collected his 2nd interception of the game. Triplett returned
the ball 72 yards for an apparent score but a clipping penalty at the
12 gave the Jags a first down at the Viking 27. QB Torino Johnson avoided
the pressure of David Sather and found DeWalt in the flat. DeWalt moved
the ball down to the 15 and the Jags called timeout with just a few seconds
left. Rick Black came on to boot a 32 yard field goal to give the Jags
a 10-9 lead as the first half expired. |
| |
 |
 |
 |
| Tommy
Thompson's interception and long return were nullified by a pass-interference
penalty. |
The Vikings started the 2nd half at
their own 35. Steve Casino went off left tackle for 13 yards and a first
down. Two plays later Jag MLB Tommy Thompson ended the drive with an interception
that he returned deep into Viking territory, but the Jags were flagged
with pass interference on the play. The Vikings capitalized on the 2nd
chance as McCourt hit Davie Beeks on a bomb deep down the right sideline.
The drive stalled from there and Larry Moody came in for a chip-shot field
goal which went over the left upright and was ruled no good. |
| |
| The Jags
took over at their own 20 and unleashed Malachi DeWalt. Runs of 1, 14,
7 and 6 yards moved the ball into Viking territory before a holding penalty
on an incomplete pass pushed them back across midfield. On the play Viking
DT Mike Hamilton hit QB Leo Dickerson injuring his shoulder. Dickerson
did not return to the game. On 3rd and 16, new QB Torino Johnson pitched
to DeWalt who once again started to sweep around the right side. This
time he pulled up to pass but couldn't find his receiver. He scrambled
back to the middle of the field before deciding to take off. He went up
the middle the then cut to his left and outraced the Viking defense down
the Jaguar sideline. He hurdled the last would be tackler inside the 5
and rumbled into the endzone. Rick Black's PAT put the Jags up 17-9 midway
through the 3rd quarter. |
| |
| Kiko Soto
returned the ensuing kickoff out near midfield. Runs by Brown and Casino
gave the Vikings a first down in Jags territory. The drive stalled from
there and Viking punter Mike Astley came out for the first punt of the
game. Astley took one step and the pulled up to throw. He hurled a perfect
strike over two Jags to Sean Frodeson at the 17 yard line. Frodeson seemed
to have possession of the ball and had taken a few steps when Jag return
Akeem McAllister arrived and blasted him, which caused the ball to fly
out of bounds. What should have been a Viking first down inside the Jag
20 was called an incomplete pass and the Jags took over near midfield.

 |
| DL
David Sather disrupted this pitch and the resulting fumble was recovered
by LB Sam Humble. |
The
football Gods took quick justice as DL David Sather hit Torino on first
down as he tried to pitch to Goody on the option. The pitch was a bit
low and went off Goody's finger tips (left). LB
Sam Humble recovered at the Jaguar 47. Four consecutive running plays,
two each by Brown and Casino, moved the ball down to the 13 as the 3rd
quarter came to an end. McCourt hit Beeks for 9 yards and first down at
the 4. Casino powered up the middle for 3 yards before being stopped by
DT Khaleeq Abdul-Aziz and MLB Tommy Thompson. McCourt tried a delayed
QB sneak on 2nd down but was pushed back for a loss. Brown
swept left on 3rd down but was upended by CB #28. On 4th and goal
McCourt threw a perfect fade to 6'4" WR Andy Shreve. He went up for
the ball and got both hands on it but it was knocked loose by CB #28 (right).
|
| |
 |
| TE
Landon Bishop's block sprung WR Carlos Clark on this 35 yard score. |
The Jags took over on downs at their
own 7. Runs by DeWalt, Goody and Will Davis moved the ball out to the
33. Two incomplete passes, one nearly being intercepted by All-American
CB Duane Bowen, brought up 4th and 4. Not having a punter the Jags went
for it. DeWalt went right on a toss-sweep for 9 yards and a first down.
From there Torino Johnson hit Carlos Clark on a quick hitch to the right
for 21 yards. The play was so successful that the Jags ran it again to
the left. A great block by TE Landon Bishop on CB Kiko Soto sprung Clark
(left) and he outraced the Viking defense 35 yards
for a touchdown. Black's PAT put the Jags up 24-9. |
| |
 |
| Jackie
Triplett holds up three fingers in fromt of the Vikings bench, one
for each of his interceptions on the day. |
 |
| Malachi
DeWalt cuts through the Viking defense for 27 yards and another
score. |
After Davie Beeks 28 yard kickoff
return, the Vikings took over at their own 36. They
tried their own quick hitch as McCourt hit Frodeson. Jaguar CB Ernie Populus
played it perfectly and came up and hit Frodeson just as he turned upfield,
knocking the ball loose. Somehow Frodeson was able to get the ball back
just ahead of Populus and DE Demitrius Milloy. On 2nd down McCourt rolled
to his right and threw on the run just before getting hit by Milloy. Safey
Jackie Triplett tipped the ball into the air and then outjumped Duane
Bowen and came down with his 3rd interception of the game. Four plays
later DeWalt took a toss sweep around right end for 27 yards and another
Jaguar score (right). Black's PAT gave the Jags
a commanding 31-9 lead. |
| |
 Duane
Bowen's 38 yard kickoff return gave the Vikings great field position near
midfield. McCourt went over the top to Shreve for 31 yards on first down.
Triplett reached in to knock the next pass away from Beeks (left)
but McCourt came back to hit Frodeson on a post-corner route down to the
2. RB BJ Johnson went up the middle for a yard and then Steve Casino finished
the drive with a 1 yard plunge (right). Down 31-15
the Vikings went for 2 and BJ Johnson swept right and then cut up field
and powered his way in. |
| |
The
Vikings attempted an onside kick and nearly pulled it off but couldn't
control the ball as it went off someone's finger tips and out of bounds
at their own 48. On the Jags first down Johnson hit a wide open Akeem
McAllister on a short button hook and he outran the Viking defense for
a touchdown. Black's 5th PAT finished out the scoring at 38-17. |
