.....With just under
2:00 remaining in the 3rd quarter, the Vikings took the lead on a 1 yard
QB sneak by Hal Bisnett.
.....The
Viking defense thwarted the Ravens next drive when CB Chris Miller made
a diving interception on a tipped pass to open the fourth quarter. Miller
returned it 32 yards for an apparent touchdown, but, being familiar with
high school rules, the referees blew the call inadvertently whistled
the play dead. The Vikings were unable to convert the turnover into points,
ending the drive with a punt on 4th and 15 from the Raven 37.
.....The
Viking defense allowed the Ravens a couple of first downs on their next
drive before shutting them down and forcing a punt.
......Starting
at their own 27 with 9:21 left, the Vikings embarked on a time consuming
12 play, 63 yard drive. Travis Smith had 7 carries for 37 yards on the
drive, and Patrick Sullivan contributed a key 9 yard catch to convert
a 3rd down. Facing fourth and goal from the 10, the Vikings went for it.
Bisnett dropped back to pass as Raven LB Matthew Schrader broke through
on a blitz. Schrader someone took the ball away from Bisnett and raced
80 yards untouched to put the Ravens ahead, 12-7. A personal foul on the
failed two point attempt forced the Ravens to kickoff from their own 15.
.....Starting
at the Raven 49 after a 13 yard kickoff return by Markiese Smith, the
Vikings needed just 1:23 and 8 plays to resume the lead. Bisnett was 4
of 7 for 40 yards with Smith and Sullivan having two catches a piece.
On 3rd and 3 from the 9, Bisnett rolled right, cut back under one defender,
and took off for the endzone. He powered between two defenders at the
goal line and in for the score. Bisnett connected with Travis Smith on
a short pass in the middle of the field and Smith rumbled in for the two-point
conversion giving the Vikings a 3 point lead with 1:11 left.
.....A
short return by Andre Jackson set up the Ravens at their own 43. Raven
QB Micah Prescott quickly hit Jackson with back to back strikes of 15
and 6 yards to set up 2nd and 4 at the Viking 36. LB Tony Heard knocked
away Prescott's 2nd down pass, and pressure by LB Ivanhoe Keo forced an
incompletion on 3rd down. On 4th down, Prescott avoided pressure long
enough to find Jackson deep across the middle. Jackson shed one would
be tackler and raced into the endzone with 9 seconds left. Pressure by
JJ Quinlan forced Prescott's pass on the try for 2 points to fall incomplete.
.....Kuhio
Wood's 28 yard kick return gave the Vikings time for one play from their
own 35. A short completion and a series of laterals moved the ball 22
yards before a forward lateral killed the play and ended the game.
